The Sun’s Red Glow

One of the things that I like to do when I lounge in my beautiful manicured garden is to enjoy some suntan. I, however, overindulge in enjoying and I fall asleep every time and end up with sunburns on my face neck and arms. Should you also face a similar predicament, I have a few tips to help you deal with sunburn at home. Some of the home remedies that you can quickly use to deal with sunburn are briefly highlighted below.

Since you will be walking around with painful itchy skin, the first thing you want to do is to avoid falling in the temptation of taking a normal bath. This can further irritate your skin. Instead, draw a bath, use normal home skin care products like baking soda, vinegar apple cider or Aveeno soothing bath treatment that is made from oatmeal for bathing. Consider pat-drying your skin or air drying after the bath since rubbing your skin will only to irritate your skin further.

After I completely dry off, I reach out for natural bath oil such as natural lemon and vitamin E or pure natural buffs bees oil. I usually let the oils soak in for a few minutes before applying moisturizer lotion or cream since the skin feels way drier if I do not do this. Chilling the moisturizer in the freezer before applying it helps to give me added relief.

I also enjoy applying cold pressure to my skin since it helps to reduce the inflammation. A pack of peas for example or ice cubes wrapped in a cloth can help give you just the right dose of relief on the affected areas. Try to avoid direct contact with the frozen item on the skin while applying cold pressure since it could have some adverse effects.

It is always important to hydrate during this time as well and apart from drinking plenty of water, I also hydrate on fruits as well. fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew are hydrating fruits that can help you take in sufficient amounts of water as well. Apart from the satiating water you draw from taking fruits, you also take inappropriate minerals and vitamins which your skin will highly appreciate.

The kitchen has amazing antidotes you can use for the sunburn and you want to get creative with the items you have. For instance, tea bags can reduce swelling when you place them on top of your eyelids. Milk, cornstarch and lettuce can also make pastes and solution that can easily be rubbed on to your skin. Knowing the right way to use them can do great wonders to the affected areas on the skin.

Should you also need to rest, consider using an air mattress instead of the regular mattress like applying talcum powder to minimize friction and chafing and the fact that it retains less heat helps me to sleep more. There are various inflatable air mattresses out there and choosing one can greatly help with the remedy of sunburns.

Summer Project List

Summer is almost here. It is my least busy time of the year and I love spending it at home relaxing with family and friends or going for some holiday getaways. Since I will have a lot of free time at home, there are many updates that I want to make around this year and I am determined to do most of them by myself. To get things started, I am going to need several tools such as paintbrushes, nails, a hammer, and scissors among others.

Let me share with you a few of my DIY projects that I will embark on this summer season; and which you can try out too. They are very doable and effective and they will leave you feeling like a DIY champion at the end of the day.

DIY rainbow effect fan blades

Creating a rain a rainbow effect on your fan blades will not only leave you with a cooling device but also an amazing décor piece. Turn the fan off and plug if off the switch. Remove the top protective cover to access the fan blades. Using a brush and paints, paint the blade with the rainbow colors just as they appear on the rainbow. Allow the paint to dry completely so that it does not mess other house items. Return the protective cover and enjoy your upgraded fun.

DIY home lanterns

Using simple tins in your home, you can come up with adorable lanterns. Take several tins and paint them differently using your favorite color shades. Using a nail and a hammer, make some small holes all over around the tin after the paint has dried. Finally, put a candle in each can and light them up. Place them strategically in the house for an amazing lighting experience.

DIY Plate Butterfly Feeders

Butterfly feeders will not only magically beautify your flower garden, but they also promote the growth of your flowers due to increased pollination. Fasten a wire plate holder at the lower side of an acrylic plate. Tie four twenty-five inches strings at the prongs on the edge of the plate. Randomly put some colorful beads on the strings and secure them with knots. Tie the four strings together at the top around a hook. Randomly fix brightly colored flowers on the strings with the help of a hot glue gun. Make some butterfly food by mixing sugar and hot water and allowing it to cool. Put a sponge at the center of the plate, saturate it with the mixture and finally hang your feeder on a tree.

Modify my fan

During those hot summer afternoons, all one wants to do is take a stroll along the beach as the cool sea breeze cools you off. However, it is not always you will get a chance for such strolls and the A.C or the fun in your home cannot give you that particular cooling. The amazing thing is that there is a way you can hack that simple fan in your home and you enjoy a cool sea like breeze right from the comfort of your home. Just fill a bowl with ice and position it an angle in front of your fan. As the fun rotates, the air will whip off the ice from the bowl, producing a chilled misty ocean-like breeze.

DIY photo frame

You can create gorgeous frames for your family photos and pictures using a collection of seashells and a wooden frame. Measure out the photos or the pictures size at the center of the wood or cardboard and mark it out. Using some glue, nicely fix the seashells evenly on the frame edges. Allow the seashells to dry on the wood and using some glue, affix the photo at the center on the section you had marked out.

Building a Shed

Having recently picked up on gardening, I have greatly become fond of it and it is something I do in my yard every day. My challenge, however, has always been getting the right seedlings and having a tool shed for my tools. However, I always love a good challenge and I have recently set up a tool shed and discovered there was not too much mystery behind. The right location is important and I chose an area that has good drainage, is leveled and next to the yard. If you are looking to build your own tool shed, then the step to step process I have outlined below will come in handy for you.

Building the floor is critical to the building of the shed and you will require deck block at each corner to eliminate the need for any kind of floor beams. Consider installing three deck blocks between each corner of the walls instead of two, if you are hoping to store particularly heavy items. In most cases, you will need to start by setting up deck blocks as shown in the plans. You can use lumber guides to help you lay them which you can later remove once you have achieved the right dimensions.

The walls of the shed are built in the same way as that of the home is built and you will find the plans useful in helping you to frame doors and windows as well. Since the plans do not give exact measurements of the floors and windows, you can opt for scrounged windows or doors that can be perfect for the shade. While salvaged wood can be fixed permanently, you will want to be careful with them since they attract and trap flies which can make a dirty mess and therefore using a different window would be ideal.

One great thing that I will be particularly pleased about is painting the shed with the help of my new handheld paint sprayer. Painting works are usually quite arduous, but time-consuming and paint sprayers are a brilliant technology you can use to help with your painting works. They come in an array of colors. This makes the job quite fancy since you can always use a color that you like and even mix different hues that bring out your taste perfectly.

Using steel connector plates is the easiest way to make the roof frame which will end up giving you a strong roof and eliminating the need for fancy cuts on the rafters. It is important to check how the roof frame sits on the walls since if you leave spaces, it will invite bugs, birds and rodents to your shed. Before you cover the roof, it is important that you cover and fasten such spaces.

The spray paints can also be used in a lot of projects in the hope that you will be delighted to do all by yourself. If your paint works are wearing off, using the spray paints can be quite handy. It is easy to use and can easily restore your paint works to be as good as new. After all, a freshly painted garden shed is a thing of beauty, a marvel to look at.
